The Bible Examiner magazine edited by George Storrs (1796-1879). The issues included here go from 1843-1849 and 1876-1880. George Storrs was an abolitionist Methodist minister who joined William Miller in the Second Advent movement and became one of Miller's most able supporters, joining with Miller in predicting Christ's visible return in 1843 and 1844. After the Great Disappointment, Storrs continued to publish The Bible Examiner and championed the ideas of soul sleep and conditional immortality. Storrs and this journal were influential in the theological development of Nelson H. Barbour and Charles Taze Russell, the Bible Student Movement - which later gave rise to the Jehovah's Witnesses. Storrs baptized Russell in 1874 and was considered a spiritual father by Russell. Included in this file are articles written by Barbour and Russell when they were publishing the Herald of the Morning magazine which heretofore have not been made public. The final Memorial issue published by Storr's daughter after his death quotes a tribute by Charles Taze Russell from his new magazine, Zion's Watch Tower and Herald of Christ's Presence (now known as The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom).
