A New System of Mythology is a monumental work that seeks to unify the mythological traditions of ancient civilizations into a single coherent system. Spanning three volumes and over 1,300 pages, this book covers the idolatrous worship practices of Greece, Rome, Egypt, Chaldea, Persia, India, Phoenicia, and even the Druids of Northern Europe. Dr. Mayo meticulously arranges the fragmented lore of these cultures, supported by fifty elegant copperplate engravings depicting more than two hundred mythological subjects. Each volume builds upon the former, offering not just a catalog of gods and goddesses, but a symphony of symbolic traditions and sacred imagery rarely matched in its time. This edition was originally published by H.C. Carey and I. Lea in Philadelphia, and reprinted by The New Alexandria Library of Texas, preserving one of the most comprehensive mythological works of the early 19th century.
