Daoismus und Zen-Buddhismus auf dem Weg in den Westen

eng: This thesis aims at making a structural comparison of philosophic Taoism and Zen with Lao Tzu as an important representative of Taoism. For this purpose similar and divergent structural features of the two philosophies have been compared. These structural features are used to describe people living in accordance with philosophic Taoism and Zen. Wise men living Taoism are at balance with unspoiled nature due to their Wu-Wie attitude. They do not know the separation of subject and object which is natural balance of powers in man. This is why the life-sustaining aspect is an important point of this thesis. Ying and Yang change rhythmically. Zen- Buddhism focuses on the loss of personal identity which culminates in subject-object separation. This loss identity is also a result of our one- side materialistic society. Through practicing Zen this dualism can be overcome. This thesis shall contribute to a dialogue between East and West by pointing out future perspectives and showing ways that lead out of the 'Western crisis'. We are all dependent on a functioning earth meaning that our planet should be preserved as a place that can be lived in.
