eng: The 'Austrian Society for Parapsychology and Border-Areas of Science' was founded in 1927 as the 'Austrian Society for Psychical Research' by (Countess) Zoe Wassilko-Serecki (secretary), the famous Austrian physicist Hans Thirring (founding president) and more than a dozen other Viennese scientists. It kept a scientific library, organized lectures and similar events and also tried to be active in research, especially in the examination of the so called 'physical mediums'. After having been 'arisiert' and converted into a 'German Society of Psychical Research' by the National-Socialists in 1938, most of the members left the society and it was finally dissolved before the end of World War II. Efforts to 'reorganize' the society, beginning in the autumn of 1945 were followed by a re-establishment in June 1946, but as a result of the political and economic situation in Austria after the war, the society lost contact with the international parapsychological research, even though in 1950 it was admitted to the newly formed 'Federation of Austrian Scientific Societies'. Also, more than 20 publications of members of the society from 1927-1938 were followed by only about 10 between 1947 and 1963. Beginning with the late 1950s, differences in the executive board and the death of most of the founding-members caused a 'change of generations' and led to the 'era Hellmut Hofmann' (* 1921) - a technician and physician at the Technical University of Vienna (president 1961-1963 and 1967-1997, vice-president 1964-1967) - which started with a conflict between Hofmann and Zoe Wassilko-Serecki.
