Este pergamino del siglo XVII relata la historia de Taketori Monogatari (El cuento del cortador de bambú), famosa por ser la primera pieza de ficción en prosa de la tradición literaria japonesa y escrita originalmente alrededor del siglo X. En el pergamino, las flores están dibujadas en el papel del texto principal. La principal preocupación de la historia es Kaguyahime, descubierta cuando era una pequeña bebé dentro de un tallo de bambú misteriosamente brillante por un anciano cortador de bambú. Él y su esposa la crían como a su hija, y Kaguyahime rápidamente se convierte en una hermosa joven, una brillante princesa. Destinada a regresar a la luna, su verdadero hogar, Kaguyahime intenta desanimar a sus cinco pretendientes principescos exigiéndoles tareas imposibles. Todo fracasa, y el emperador de Japón también se convierte en un candidato enamorado pero rechazado de su mano. Cuando una embajada de seres celestiales llega en un carro para recogerla, ella se pone una túnica de plumas y la llevan de regreso a casa para reclamar el lugar que le corresponde como inmortal.
