Description
The indigenous societies of the Amazon basin have been using for thousands of years a beverage called Ayahuasca. This one is composed of two plants: Banisteriopsis caapi and Psychotria viridis. Both give alkaloids to the beverage, beta-carbolines and N,N-dimethyltryptamine, respectively. The association of these molecule leads to an alteration of the state of consciousness. This condition is traditionally used by shamans for curative purposes. This healing power has been disseminated via the Internet, which has led to the development of shamanic tourism, but also the misuse of this substance, which has been classified as narcotic in many countries. However, based on the results of traditional medicine, clinical trials have been conducted to investigate the possibility of using Ayahuasca in the treatment of some pathology
