L'ouvrage est une adaptation d'un traité plus ancien écrit au XVIe siècle par un certain Sinibal (ou Cinibal) Spadacine (ou Spadacime), "astrologue de l'Etat de Milan" dont on ne sait presque rien. Il en existe maintes versions avec des titres plus ou moins détaillés. Ces livres d'astrologie ont été les best-seller des publications populaires. L'ouvrage est constitué du portrait de l'homme puis de la femme (complexion, humeur, maladies, accidents...) en fonction du signe astrologique. Un court traité de chiromancie vient clore l'ouvrage.
