4to. pp. [1] (blank), [16], 176, [15]. Signatures: ẽ4, A4-Z4, Aa4. 2 unnumbered illustrations (folded), coat of arms of Roger de Bellegarde, signed "Fr. I. guenebauld, filz de l'auteur" on p. [3]. Printer’s device on title page. Engraved initials, headpieces. First edition recounting the ‘discovery’ by the presumed Renaissance forger, Jean Guénébauld of Dijon of a miraculously well-preserved buried sarcophagus of the semi-mythical Druid prince Chyndonax with ostensibly druidical inscriptions in the author’s own vineyard in 1598. The find and subsequent research provoked a brief period of intense interest in druidism in Burgundy. The folded engraved plate shows the tomb and urn discovered by Guénébauld, signed "Nicolas Spirinx fe." However, Nicolas Spierinck was active between1455 and 1499 and the discovery is dated by the author November 1598 in Chapter 1. See A. Grafton, Joseph Scaliger.
