This is an archive of a weekly British spiritualist journal which ran from 1881 to 1885. This file is Volume IV, encompassing issues of the journal from January to December of 1884. Spiritualism and related topics were of considerable interest in the United States and England during the late 19th and early 20th century, attracting sincere enquirers as often as cynical charlatans. Light is a journal written by the former category. The journal's mission statement in the first volume paints a picture of the atmosphere of the day: ". . . the puerilities and personalities which have sometimes painfully impressed the readers of current Spiritualistic literature, and debarred them from making that use of it in the interest of others for which it would otherwise have been so valuable, will in this journal be scrupulously avoided."
