A fundamental study on biblical numerics, elaborating the author's initial study "Palmoni; or the Numerals of Scripture" (1863). Mahan influenced E. W. BULLINGER "Number in Scripture" – a more popular exposition – as well as his astonishing "The Companion Bible" with its informative appendices. Richard Meux BENSON "The War-Songs of the Prince of Peace", 2 vols. (1901), containing a poetic translation with a devotional, meditative study (which occupies a class by itself), is also indebted to Mahan for specific interpretive observations.
