The logbook abstract of the ship N.B. Palmer details several voyages between New York, San Francisco, Shanghai, Whampoa [i.e. Huangpu Qu], Manila, Batavia, Honolulu, Hong Kong, Siam [i.e. Thailand], Amoy [i.e. Xiamen], and Yokohama (May 1851-Jan. 1872). Master and log keeper was Charles P. Low. It is a daily log that describes wind, weather, location, sightings of ships, finding the ship Austerlitz in distress and rescuing the crew, the ship leaking, illness and death on board, cargo (including oil), ship maintenance, injuries on board, and a lunar eclipse. Log does not continue while in port. Enclosed is a clipping with a poem. Bound with the ship Houqua and ship Samuel Russell. Gift of T.M. Low; Acc 19,308.
