The New Penny Standard Library Of Complete Tales (aka The New Standard Library Of Complete Penny Novels ) was a series of short paperbound penny dreadful stories issued in 1873 by London publisher Frederick Farrah (only sixteen pages long, they were in no sense of the word complete "novels" - "complete tales" was the more accurate title). "The Duchess's Revenge" is a gruesome little tale of murder and vengeance, complete with ghostly warnings and a freshly severed head in a cabinet, oozing blood (the severed head scene was naturally chosen for the cover illustration).
