Einzelne Kapitel des Buches betreffen Umfang und Wesen der Volkskunst vom so genanten Altpreußen (später wurde die Bezeichnung Ostpreußen eingeführt): Häuserformen und typische Bauernhöfe, innere Hausausgestattung, Kirchen, Friedhöfe, kleine Hausgeräte und andere handwerkliche Erzeugnisse (Holz-, Stroh-, Metallartikel, Keramik, Wandmalerei, Kinderspielzeug), Volkstracht, Handarbeiten (Weberei, Stickerei). Das Buch besteht überwiegend aus Bildmaterial (217 Fotos am Ende des Buches) und im Text – Skizzen mit der Darstellung der Häuserschnitte, Giebelkrönungen und Grabtafeln. Die Publikation gewährt die Einsicht in viele interessante und fast vergessene Aspekte der Volkskunst Weichselwerders, Warmiens, Masurens, der Kurischen Nehrung und des Memelgebiets – u. a. Kurische Schiffswimpel, die mit den Fischschuppen bestickten Samtdecken im Weichselwerder und bunte, kunstvoll bestickte Frauenhauben. Viele von den gedruckten Fotos stellen die Folklore Elbings dar: Elbinger Kannen, Bügeleisen, Wärmpfanne, Löffel, Schlüssel, Tracht der Hochzeittänzer aus Pr. Holland. Leineneinband mit gepressten Volksmotiven.
