Fifty-eight numbered full-page engravings by Cornelis Bloemaert chiefly after paintings by Abraham van Diepenbeeck. The source of nos. 9, 47, 50 is given in the plate as Pierre Brebiette, and according to Hollstein, nos. 10, 19, 32, 49, 52 & 53 are after Brebiette as well. Plate 31 depicting "Salmacis et Hermaphrodite" is usually a replacement by (François or Nicolas) Poilly, as Bloemaert's engraving was considered "trop libre"; see Brunet. Woodcut head- and tail-pieces, initials Signatures: ã e i² A-3O 3P² 17-18 omitted in paging Includes index Hollstein Dutch & Flemish Brunet Binding: 19th-century polished calfskin. Gilt tooling along margins of boards, on spine and on turn-ins. Title in gilt on red spine label. Signature at foot of t.p. and on verso of last 2 leaves: guyon de sardiere (i.e. Jean Baptiste Denis Guyon de Sardiere, d. ca. 1759, bibliophile)
