AN eminent authority, after discussing the oracular powers of the whispering leaves of the oaks of Dodona, of the Appolonic laurel at Delphi, and of the fabulous ash Ygdrasill, proceeds to say that "the divining-rod has inherited its qualities from the divining tree."
