The Survival Of African Music In America

"The Survival of African Music in America", written by Jeannette Robinson Murphy. First published in Popular Science Monthly vol. 55. This was scanned from "The Negro and his Folklore in Nineteenth-Century Periodicals", published by the American Folklore society and the University of Texas Press in 1967. I apologize if anyone finds her characterization of the ex-slaves' speech offensive. I think, in the greater context of the article, that she meant well. It was a different time. Part of a series on the author, my great great grandmother Jeannette Robinson Murphy. See more soon at Dinosaur Discs .
