Marchetti's device on t.p. (anchor & dolphin). Sixteen full-page engravings with etching. They are "of emblematical character, although not emblems proper" (Praz), and each is followed by epigrams and explanation in Latin and Italian. The concluding section is headed: Vaticinivm Mavmectanorvm. Head- and tail-pieces, initials Praz, M. Studies in 17th-cent. imagery (2nd ed.) Binding: 18th-century polished calfskin. Rebacked, preserving earlier backstrip tooled in gilt and with title in gilt on red label. Edges of boards and turn-ins tooled in gilt. Page edges sprinkled red and tan Stamped in gilt on both boards are the arms of Charles-Henri, comte d'Hoym (Olivier, pl. 672). On front pastedown is leather label stamped in gilt with monogram: SBS. Stamp in black ink on t.p. verso: British Museum sale duplicate 1787; and at foot of p. 106: Mvsevm Britannicvm
