In ästhetischer Perspektive lässt sich das 20. Jahrhundert zugespitzt als »Zeitalter der Mystik« bezeichnen. Konzepte und Termini der christlichen Mystik, aber auch der Kabbala und des Sufismus wurden in transformierter Gestalt integraler Bestandteil der Literatur, der Philosophie und der ästhetischen Theoriebildung der Moderne.Die Beiträge dieses interdisziplinären Bandes betrachten die verbindenden Elemente, Strukturanalogien und Differenzen zwischen mystischen und ästhetischen Erfahrungs- und Sprachmodi u.a. bei Paul Celan, Georges Bataille, Harold Bloom, Ernst Cassirer und Michelangelo Antonioni und versuchen so, sich der Ursache des Faszinosums Mystik für die moderne Ästhetik in Philosophie, Literatur und visuellen Medien zu nähern.
