ger: Die vorliegende Studie betrachtet Literatur nicht nur als Text-, sondern auch als Sozialsystem (im Sinne von Pierre Bourdieu), das aus aesthetischen wie oekonomischen Gründen dem Zwang zur Innovation unterliegt. Dabei kommt es zu einer bemerkenswerten Dynamik von 'Zentrum' und 'Peripherie', von Werk und Biographie, von De- und Reterritorialisierung sowie zu einer 'Intertextualitaet des Marginalen' mit dem Kanon. Nach einer theoretischen Klaerung der wichtigsten verwendeten Begrifflichkeiten (Kultur und literarisches Feld, Kanon und Rand, 'E'- und 'U'-Literatur, das diskrete Ineinander von Aesthetik und Oekonomie, Phantastik und das Monstroese, das literarische Motiv/ Intertextualitaet) untersucht die Arbeit die genannten Prozesse anhand von Fallstudien. Als marginalisiertes Literaturgenre schlechthin bot sich mit der deutschsprachigen Phantastik des 20. Jhs. ein geeigneter und von der Forschung wenig beachteter Untersuchungsgegenstand an. Bei der Analyse exemplarischer Autoren und Texte kommt ein Methodenfaecher zur Anwendung, der seine wesentlichen Anregungen dem Russischen Formalismus, der Literatursoziologie, (Poly-)Systemtheorie, der Diskursanalyse sowie der Motivforschung verdankt. Die gewaehlten vier Beispiele sollen zeigen, unter welchen Bedingungen und zu welchem Zweck sich Literatur dem Rand naehert: So dient der Vampir zwischen GOETHE (1749-1832), Ingeborg BACHMANN (1926-73), H.C.ARTMANN (1921-2000) und Elfriede JELINEK (* 1946) als Randfigur einer Auseinandersetzung mit Sexualitaet, Gender issues und der Marginalitaet der Frau in der zeitgenössischen Gesellschaft. Der oesterreichische Autor und Pen-Club-Praesident Alexander LERNET-HOLENIA (1897-1976) wiederum verwendet den Irrationalismus der Phantastik, um das Interbellum literarisch als 'Randzeit' und "Zwischenreich" zu inszenieren. Für Otto SOYKA (1881-1955), einen ehemaligen Mitarbeiter von Karl Kraus, wird die Phantastikproduktion Mittel zur Emanzipation von seinem Mentor am Literaturmarkt; seine 'Randthemen' sind Parallelaktionen zu einem spekulativen Diskurs in der zeitgenoessischen Wissenschaft ueber Massen, Macht, Traum und Drogen. Thomas BERNHARD (1931-89) schliesslich, der zwar selbst nicht der phantastischen Literatur angehoert, erinnert mit seiner Rhetorik und seinen schrecklichen 'Randorten' in der oesterreichischen Provinz an die Raumaesthetik der Phantastik nach PIRANESI, BURKE, der Gothic Novel und E.A.POE. eng: In the study here presented, literature is regarded not only as a series of texts, but as a social system (as defined by Pierre Bourdieu), which for aesthetic as well as economic reasons is subject to the compulsion to innovate. This leads to a remarkable dynamic of the centre and periphery, of the work and biography, of de- and re-territorialisation, as well as to an intertextuality of the marginal with the canon. The most important concepts used in this study are: culture and literary field, canon and margin, 'high' and 'low' literature, the discreet interaction of the aesthetic and the economic, the genres of the fantastic and the monstrous, the literary motif and intertextuality. After these have been clarified, the thesis investigates the above processes with the help of case studies. 20th century fantastic literature in the German language, in itself a marginalised genre, offered a suitable object of study. A range of methods are applied to the analysis of characteristic authors and texts which are essentially derived from Russian formalism, literary sociology, (poly-)system theory, discourse analysis as well as research into motifs. The four chosen examples are intended to show under what conditions and for what purpose literature draws near to the margin: from the time of GOETHE (1749-1832) to that of Ingeborg BACHMANN (1926-73), H.C.ARTMANN (1921-2000) and Elfriede JELINEK (*1946) the minor figure of the vampire has been used to examine sexuality, issues of gender, and the marginality of women in contemporary society. On the other hand, the Austrian author and PEN-Club President Alexander LERNET-HOLENIA (1897-1976) uses the irrationality of the fantastic for his literary depiction of the inter-war period as a 'marginal time' and 'transitional realm'. For Otto SOYKA (1881-1955), a former collaborator with Karl Kraus, the creation of fantasy becomes a means to emancipate himself on the literary market from his mentor; his marginal themes are 'parallel actions' to a speculative discourse in contemporary science on crowds, power, dreams and drugs. Finally, Thomas BERNHARD (1931-1989), while himself not belonging to the genre of the fantastic literature, does recall in his rhetoric and his choice of terrible 'marginal' places in the Austrian province the aesthetic topography of the fantasy genre as depicted by PIRANESI, BURKE, the Gothic novel and Edgar Allen POE.
