Der Autor identifiziert das sagenhafte Atlantis einerseits mit der Megalithkultur und dem Kulturkreis der Nordischen Bronzezeit, andererseits mit der "Seevölker-Bewegung" um 1200 v. Chr. Das zentrale Ereignis der Atlantis-Überlieferung ist weniger der viel besprochene Untergang der Insel, als vielmehr der -- in vielen Theorien vernachlässigte -- Eroberungsfeldzug der vereinten atlantischen Königreiche vom "atlantischen Meer" aus in den Bereich des östlichen Mittelmeeres, nach Griechenland und Ägypten. Hierdurch hat der "Atlantis-Bericht" des griechischen Philosophen Platon einen deutlichen historischen Bezug. Bei diesem Feldzug haben die Eroberer in den eroberten Ländern zahlreiche sprachliche Spuren hinterlassen, denen der Autor nachgeht, mit ausführlichen Abstechern insbesondere in die Indogermanistik und die Vor- und Frühgeschichte.
