[Letter to] Dear Johnson

Holograph, signed with initials William Lloyd Garrison finds Oliver Johnson's anti-slavery sketches, as published in the Christian Union, "so personal to myself that modesty precludes my extolling what you have written." Garrison was almost startled by the last issue, in which he (William L. Garrison) was quoted on his orthodox religious views, including a sonnet with his early views on the Sabbath. He was glad that his non-resistance ideas were also included. Garrison did not want to appear hostile to Abner Kneeland because of his infidelity. He thinks that both J. Miller M'Kim and Lydia Mott will soon die of tuberculosis. He asks Oliver Johnson if he has seen the photograph of him (William L. Garrison) in which the "spirit likeness" of Charles Sumner appears.
