These charms were written on palm-leaf strips sewn together at the longitudinal margins. This can be hung up and displayed like a map on the wall of a home. Very rare in this form, c. 1650. Probably an heirloom from an ancient Gampala, Ceylon family Manuscript Title devised by cataloguer Poleman description.: Incantations, charms, invocations to be hung on the house-wall against disease and other troubles, Sinhalese script. 40 ff. Charts, diagrams, and illustrations. M (Medical Museum) 233b. (Casey Wood number) Collected by Casey Wood: no. 233b Comments by Dr. Perera:: Sewing is unusual. Maybe not intended to be hung, since parts of it would be upside-down in this case Label inside the ola reads: 233B. Family mantra (charm).
