Unidentified Pali-Sinhalese astrological ola

276 [or 278?] leaves ; 6.5 x 37 x 12.5 cm (7-9 lines per leaf) Manuscript Title devised by cataloguer Poleman description: "Unidentified. Sinhalese script. 276 ff. 14.3 X 2.25 7-9 lines. Palm leaves with painted covers.. M Museum) Case 28." Collected by Casey Wood Casey Wood label reads: "These old, painted covers of Jak (?) wood bind several (see the unequal plac-holes in the leaves) OLAs or manuscript-books in Pali (Sinhalese script) on the Buddhist teachings. They were written on the prepared leaves of the Talipot palm and are said to have been inscribed by the monks of a monastery of Sri Lanka about 1700 AD. They were bought from a Buddhist priest and presented to the library of McGill University by Dr. Casey Wood, Kandy, the Temple of the Tooth, April 10, 1925." Pencil note gives the size and number of folios and tentatively identifies this as Poleman 6596 Comments by Dr. Perera: The letters here represent numerics. It is an astrological text.
